The company picked up the top awards for ‘Best Large-Scale Project’ in the Capital for the Cosy Homes Barking & Dagenham scheme, and ‘Best Large-Scale Project’ in the North East for Warm Up Redcar & Cleveland.

The awards recognises exceptional work in delivering large-scale energy efficiency projects while maintaining excellent customer service and high standards of quality workmanship throughout the project. The prestigious accolade of ‘best large-scale project’ recognises successful large-scale energy saving projects where at least a quarter of a million pound has been spent on improving homes.

The projects, which are run in partnership with local authorities aim to help householders access a range of free energy efficiency measures such as cavity wall insulation, loft insulation, boiler replacements and first-time central heating systems that will make their homes warmer and cheaper to heat.

“We are absolutely thrilled that our projects have been recognised at the best of the best in the face of stiff competition” said MD, Steve Crump. “It’s testament to the great team that we have in place that are always willing to go that extra mile.

“Our scheme in London has seen almost 1,000 energy saving measures installed in over 730 homes so far, helping contribute to a carbon footprint reduction of around 10,500 tonnes and residents access savings equal to £3.5million on their bills during their lifetime.”

“And in Redcar & Cleveland, we delivered a boiler-replacement scheme throughout lockdown, helping hundreds of families that were facing reduced household income due to the pandemic, to be able to heat their homes whilst also reducing their fuel bills.”

Councillor Dominic Twomey, Deputy Leader and Cabinet Member for Finance, Performance & Core Services, said: “It’s great that our scheme has been recognised on a regional level and crowned the capital’s energy efficiency champion, but the success of the scheme speaks for itself.

“Last year, we declared a climate emergency, to show that while we have a long way to go, we are committed to being as green as possible to create a better, safer future for children and future generations.”

“We know that tackling climate change is something we can’t fix overnight, but modernising homes and using newer, greener technology is just one of the ways we can help reduce our carbon footprint – while also helping residents slash their energy bills.”

IAN JOINS THE TEAM

THERE’s a new face on the management team at award-winning insulation and heating company, J & J Crump & Son Ltd.

Ian Bacon has joined the company as EWI manager to head up the company’s newly established, external wall insulation (EWI) division.

Ian, from Mansfield, brings with him a wealth of experience having worked in the EWI industry for more than 15 years, overseeing large scale EWI projects for Local Authorities in the Midlands and South that saw thousands of social housing properties transformed as well as private sector properties, high rise blocks of flats and schools.

He joins that team at an exciting time for the company as it rolls out several major projects in partnership with local authorities and utility companies which will see EWI become part of its core offering, alongside cavity wall and loft insulation, boiler replacements, full new heating systems and air source heat pumps.

“I’m delighted to be part of the J J Crump team,” said Ian. “The company has an excellent reputation for delivering good quality, reliable and competitive services and for building long-term successful relationships with customers, local authorities, social housing providers and funding partners alike.

“It’s exciting to be joining the company at a time when it is growing and expanding its range of services and to be able to drive forward the EWI side of the business.”

The Sheffield- based company was established over 35 years ago and delivers its award-winning ‘Warm-Up’ energy efficiency schemes around the country from its network of depots in Sheffield, Newton Abbot, The Isle of Wight, and Tutbury in Derbyshire.

“We are absolutely thrilled to have Ian on board,” said MD Steve Crump. “The company is going through a period of growth and it’s the right time for us to add EWI to our core services.

“To be able to work hand in hand with local authorities and our Utility funding partners on area-based projects and be able to deliver energy efficiency measures to all properties, including the hard to treat ones, is great news.

“I am very much looking forward to working closely with Ian in the future.”

THOUSANDS OF ISLAND HOMES COULD BENEFIT FROM RE-LAUNCHED ENERGY SCHEME

Thousands of homes on the Isle of Wight could benefit from a new and improved energy efficiency scheme.

Warm Up Wight has been operating since 2016 and aims to help householders on the Island to access a range of energy efficiency measures that could help to make their homes warmer and cheaper to heat.

The qualification criteria for the scheme has now been widened meaning many more people that may have missed out in the past could now qualify, including those on low incomes or properties that are hard to heat.

The scheme is operated by heating and insulation company J&J Crump & Sons Ltd and supported by the Isle of Wight Council,

Cllr Steve Hastings, Cabinet Member for Procurement, Waste Management, Special Projects and Forward Planning, said: “Fuel poverty is still a real issue on the Isle of Wight, and as energy prices rise, those living in homes without sufficient energy-efficiency measures in place are often hit the hardest.

“We know that following the Covid-19 lockdown, many homes will be facing the reality of a reduced income whilst their fuel bills are likely to increase as a result of being at home all the time. This is an ideal time to do what we can to help people make their homes warmer and cheaper to heat.”

Under this new scheme, thousands of homes on the Island will be eligible to apply for a range of energy efficiency measures, such as cavity wall insulation, loft insulation, room in the roof insulation and in some cases replacement boilers or new heating systems.

“We know that there are tens of thousands of homes on the Island that could still benefit from insulation and heating measures, said Steve Crump, MD of JJCrump.

“Our teams will be out on the streets soon and residents will receive a letter through their doors which will provide more information about the scheme, list the eligibility criteria and the various ways in which they can apply. For many residents, the energy efficiency measures will be free.

“While the weather is warmer, there’s no better time to prepare their homes for the winter months and the colder conditions, and we would encourage anyone who thinks they may be eligible under the scheme to get in touch.”

Householders can still benefit from Warm Up Scheme…

MULTI award-winning energy efficiency company J &J Crump & Son is offering people currently under lockdown the opportunity to check if they are eligible for grant funded or free support.

As a company it runs Warm Up schemes across the UK in conjunction with local authorities, which offers a whole host of householders – not just those on benefits – the opportunity to get insulation, new boilers and heating systems.

And although installation is currently on hold during the pandemic, applications are still being dealt with so that anyone eligible will be able to benefit when the lockdown ends.

The company runs Warm Up schemes in Hartlepool, Redcar and Cleveland, Hambleton in the North, along with Warm Up the Borough which covers Scarborough, Filey and Whitby.

It also operates Warm Up Devon, Warm Up Isle of Wight and Cosy Homes Barking and Dagenham, working with local authorities in all of these areas to deliver a variety of energy efficiency measures.

It has helped more than 100,000 homes and has brought in more than £50m worth of grant funding to help the most vulnerable or those on low incomes benefit from a range of improvements.

The company has just unveiled a new website – www.JJCrump.com – to make it easier for people to check the eligibility criteria in their particular area, along with details on how they can self-refer or refer members of their family.

“We know that most people are currently at home so this is a good time to go on to the website for a particular Warm Up scheme and to see if they are eligible,” said MD, Steve Crump.

“We are still able to start the process and then when we are able to start installations again, those who do meet the criteria won’t have long to wait.”

J & J Crump & Sons is one of the UK’s longest established insulation and heating companies, established for more than 30 years.

The company provides a range of services from cavity wall insulation and loft insulation to boiler installation and servicing, central heating and air source heat pumps.

The Warm Up schemes have won 10 energy efficiency awards in recent years, including being named the North East’s large project of the year for its Hartlepool scheme.

The projects offer people a number of free or funded energy efficiency measures, including boilers, loft insulation and cavity wall insulation, working with all the major utility companies.

“We would urge anyone who lives in the areas covered by our Warm Up schemes or who is on benefits to check the new website which is really easy to use and has all the information about how someone can apply for themselves or for a family member,” said Steve.

East London council launches Cosy Homes scheme to help residents save money

East London council launches Cosy Homes scheme to help residents save money

Barking and Dagenham residents could benefit from a warmer home this winter through the council’s Cosy Homes Scheme.

The council is working in partnership with E.ON energy and J&J Crump installers to help eligible residents make their homes warmer and cheaper to heat by offering free energy-saving measures including cavity wall, party wall and loft insulation, and in some cases replacement boilers or new heating systems.

Recent changes to the government’s Energy Company Obligation (ECO) means that the council is now able to widen the qualification criteria for people that are eligible for ECO funding. Homes of residents who are on low income, have someone with a long-term health condition, or are in receipt of benefits, will be able to benefit from the scheme.

It is estimated that cavity wall insulation could save residents up to £150* a year on their fuel bills, and a further £125* with additional loft insulation.

Councillor Cameron Geddes, Cabinet Member for Regeneration and Social Housing, said: “Fuel poverty is a huge challenge in our borough and with rising energy prices residents living in the least energy-efficient homes often suffer the most.

“The scheme is a fantastic way to help residents live in warmer homes, leading to lower fuel bills, more disposable income and better health. I’d urge everyone to get in touch to find out if they qualify to benefit from this free scheme.”

The council will be writing to homes who have been identified as having low energy-efficiency ratings over the coming weeks explaining how residents can get involved.

Thousands of homes in the Borough of Scarborough could benefit from a new scheme being launched this week

Thousands of homes in the Borough of Scarborough could benefit from a new scheme being launched this week

In a new partnership, we have joined forces with energy-saving and heating services company, J & J Crump & Son Ltd, to launch Warm up the Borough, a scheme which aims to help householders in Scarborough, Filey and Whitby make their homes warmer and more affordable to heat.

The scheme will see J & J Crump & Son Ltd installing energy efficiency measures into eligible homes for free, which could deliver savings of up to £460 per year on fuel bills for the householder. Eligible households will have the work funded by the Government’s Energy Company Obligation (ECO).

Recent changes to ECO means that we are now able to widen the qualification criteria of those eligible for help. A letter is being delivered to selected homes throughout the borough this week, dual-branded with the Scarborough Borough Council and the J & J Crump & Son Ltd logos, explaining how people can take advantage of the scheme. The letter includes full details of the qualifying criteria and for most people receiving the letter, the energy efficiency measures will be free.

Andrew Rowe, Housing Manager said:

“Under the Warm up the Borough scheme, thousands of households that have a low income or have someone with a long-term health condition or are in receipt of benefits, will be able to benefit from a range of energy efficiency measures such as cavity wall insulation, party wall insulation, loft insulation, room in roof insulation and in some cases replacement boilers or new heating systems. In the past, the qualification criteria for funding were really restrictive so we know that many households will have missed out on previous schemes.

“We are committed to both reducing fuel poverty and improving the energy efficiency of housing stock within our borough. Our agreement with J & J Crump & Son Ltd means thousands of people can look forward to living in warmer homes, leading to lower fuel bills, more disposal income and better health.”

Nine blocks of flats come in from the cold

Nine blocks of flats come in from the cold.

HOUSEHOLDERS in nine blocks of privately-owned flats on Bakersmead estate in Hartlepool are looking forward to a cosy winter thanks to the Warm Up Hartlepool scheme.

The scheme aims to help householders in the borough access a range of energy efficiency measures that will make their homes warmer and cheaper to heat and is a joint initiative between Hartlepool Borough Council and home insulation company J&J Crump & Sons Ltd.

The Council has been able to determine where funding should be directed and residents in the borough can take advantage of the scheme’s extended qualification criteria to benefit from insulation and heating measures.

Homes in certain postcode areas automatically qualify for assistance which made it possible for the Bakersmead estate flats to receive free insulation measures.

“When our surveyors were in the area they discovered that the flats had been built with only partial wall insulation which meant that they were still losing a significant amount of heat through the walls,” explained Steve Crump, MD of J & J Crump and Son Ltd.

“Being able to pull in funding because the flats are in a qualifying postcode area under the Warm Up Hartlepool scheme meant that we have been able to install cavity wall insulation to all the blocks of flats and loft insulation to the top flats.

“It’s great that over 50 households are going to really feel the benefit of this extra insulation as winter approaches, and hopefully see a significant reduction in their fuel bills.”

Bakersmead Management Company in partnership with residential property managing agents Town and City Management Limited, who are responsible for managing the flats and the estate were delighted to be able to work with the Warm Up Hartlepool scheme to get the properties insulated free of charge.

“We were obviously very keen to ensure that all the properties were fully insulated,” said Val Cartwright Director of Bakersmead Management Company.

“When we were initially approached by J &J Crump we were a bit concerned about what the aesthetic impact would be on the buildings so had some reservations. But after looking at other properties they’d done the work on we were delighted to go ahead.

“Having the work carried out free of charge was a great opportunity for us. The team has done a great job and we are really pleased that all the householders in the blocks will feel the benefit this winter.”

Under the scheme thousands of Hartlepool homes will be eligible to apply for a range of energy efficiency measures, such as wall insulation, loft insulation, room in the roof insulation and in some cases replacement boilers or new heating systems.

Homes in certain postcode areas could qualify, as well as those that are in receipt of certain benefits, have an income threshold of less than £32,000 a year, and those with long-term health conditions which are made worse by the cold and damp.

Tony Hanson, Hartlepool Borough Council’s Assistant Director of Environment and Neighbourhood Services, said: “This is a great example of how partnership working is really helping residents in Hartlepool.

“This is the first time that we as a Council have been able to determine where funding should be directed. Not being restricted by a very exact set of criteria means that many residents in the borough that may have missed out on previous schemes will be eligible to apply for a range of energy efficiency measures which is great news.

“We are delighted that the Warm Up Hartlepool scheme is going so well and  encourage as many people as possible to get in touch to see if they could also benefit.”

Hartlepool residents should now have received letters through their doors which provide more information about the scheme, list the eligibility criteria and the various ways in which they can apply. For many residents, the energy efficiency measures will be free.

A Sheffield-based company has beaten off stiff competition to scoop the top honour at the Regional Energy Efficiency Awards.

J & J Crump and Son Ltd, from Killamarsh, Sheffield, picked up the award for the ‘Best Large Scale Project’ for its work on the Warm-up-Hartlepool scheme. The award recognises exceptional work in delivering a large-scale energy-saving project while maintaining excellent customer service and a high standard of quality workmanship throughout the project.

The project, which is run in partnership with Hartlepool Borough Council and E.ON aims to help householders in the borough access a range of energy efficiency measures such as cavity wall insulation, loft insulation and heating that will make their homes warmer and cheaper to heat.

The scheme which is funded through the Energy Company Obligation (ECO3) launched in July 2018, and by working with the Council and EON, the funding partner, J & J Crump were able to target measures at areas that were most in need.

“We have a huge amount of experience in delivering area-based schemes, working closely with Local Authorities and Utilities to be able to make a real difference,” said Steve Crump, MD of J & J Crump & Son Ltd.

“Warm Up HartIepool follows on from similar schemes which we run around the country including the Isle of Wight, Devon, Scotland and the Midlands and we are absolutely delighted that it has been recognised as an exemplar scheme on a regional level.”

Warm Up Hartlepool will now go forward to the National awards in September.

Thousands of hartlepool homes could benefit from energy scheme

Thousands of homes in Hartlepool could benefit from a new scheme that launches today (Monday 16 July).

Warm Up Hartlepool aims to help householders in the borough access a range of energy efficiency measures that could help to make their homes warmer and cheaper to heat.

The scheme is a joint initiative between Hartlepool Borough Council, home insulation company J&J Crump & Sons Ltd and 0800 Repair, a provider of gas repair and installation services.

Councillor Kevin Cranney, Chair of Hartlepool Borough Council’s Regeneration Services Committee, said: “Fuel poverty is a real issue, and as energy prices rise, those living in homes without sufficient energy-efficiency measures in place are often hit the hardest.

“In the past, the qualification criteria for funding has been very restrictive, and so we were aware that many residents in the borough may have missed out on previous schemes.

“Under this new scheme, thousands of Hartlepool homes will be eligible to apply for a range of energy efficiency measures, such as wall insulation, loft insulation, room in the roof insulation and in some cases replacement boilers or new heating systems.”

Hartlepool residents can soon expect to receive letters through their doors which will provide more information about the scheme, list the eligibility criteria and also the various ways in which they can apply. For many residents, the energy efficiency measures will be free.

Tony Hanson, the Council’s Assistant Director for Environment and Neighbourhood Services, added: “Our alliance with J&J Crump & Sons Ltd and 0800 Repair means that thousands of people could reduce their fuel bills and keep their homes warmer for longer.

“While the weather is warmer, there’s no better time to prepare our homes for the winter months and the colder conditions, and we would encourage anyone who thinks they may be eligible under the scheme to get in touch.”
